The Netherlands is upgrading its MQ-9A capabilities

        SAN DIEGO – March 26, 2024 – The Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF) is partnering with General Atomics Aeronautical Systems (GA-ASI) to implement a critical upgrade to its growing fleet of MQ-9A remotely piloted aircraft (RPA). In 2023, the RNLAF announced that it would double the number of MQ-9A Reapers from 4 to 8 and is currently upgrading its aircraft to include maritime radar, communications transponder, extended range fuel tanks, electronic support media (ESM) and other capabilities. ) and weapons.        GA-ASI integrates new payloads for the RNLAF, including maritime radars currently operating in other parts of the world, ESMs, weapons and communications relays designed to connect all services of the Dutch Ministry of Defense.

        The MQ-9A Block 5 has a payload capacity of 3,850 lb (1,746 kg), including 3,000 lb (1,361 kg) of external storage. It provides long-term surveillance capabilities with full-field video, synthetic aperture radar/moving target indicator/maritime radar and ESM. The MQ-9A Block 5 is an extremely reliable aircraft with a fault-tolerant flight control system and triple redundant avionics architecture.
