There is still more than half a year left until the opening of the 25th Guangzhou Athletics Relay in China, and the qualification system for the event has already been released.
From 10 to 11 May 2025, Guangzhou will host the world’s best sprinters as countries compete for places in the 25th IAAF World Athletics Relay in Tokyo.
This will be the seventh World Athletics Relay and the first time the event will be held in China, following the Bahamas, Japan and Poland.
The World Athletics Relays comprises five relays – the men’s and women’s 4x100m and 4x400m relays, and the mixed 4x400m relay – with 32 teams participating in each event.
The top 16 teams in each event at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games are eligible to participate in the 25th World Athletics Relay in Guangzhou. The host country can also send a team to each event without restrictions on participation conditions.
The remaining teams (maximum 32 teams per event) will be determined from the top lists during the qualification period (1 January 2024 to 13 April 2025). From 18 November 2024, World Athletics will update the list of qualified relay teams every week based on the above conditions.
The top 14 teams in the five World Athletics events at Guangzhou 2025 will automatically qualify for the World Athletics Championships Tokyo 2025.
