Omron Electronic Components Europe has launched a new high power DC relay for use in home electrical storage systems (ESS), bi-directional EV chargers and UPS systems.
The G9KB-E develops the functionality of the G9KB series with a maximum voltage of 800 VDC and a maximum current of 100 A, allowing it to fully meet the growing market demand for higher voltages and currents, especially in battery applications. Range from 15 to 40 kW.
The relay has the same size and weight as the standard G9KB series, but the maximum switching voltage is 33% higher and the maximum current is 50% higher. As a result, this relay opens up new opportunities for application developers to reduce the number of relays in a system, as well as use more power in a smaller footprint. Using fewer relays in a system improves system stability and reduces heat generation, as well as reducing the environmental impact if disposed of at end of life.
The G9KB-E has a bidirectional DC switching feature that allows one device to replace two unidirectional relays. This relay uses arc cutting technology to safely and reliably disconnect high power DC power. 3D arc modeling technology is used to visualize arc phenomena and optimize the arc cutting process, resulting in a more compact design and greater safety than competing technologies.
The device has a low nominal contact resistance of 5 milliohms, which generates less heat and improves operating efficiency. This, in turn, improves the reliability and durability of the G9KB-E itself and related components in the same system. The G9KB-E is PCB mounted and weighs less than traditional relays or contactors. Unlike traditional sealed relays, it does not contain hydrogen, which increases safety.
The equipment has been tested over a million times throughout its life and is certified to UL (UL60947-4-1), TUV (EN 61810-10) and CQC (GB/T 21711.1).
