Sony is releasing a new PlayStation 5 system update that makes your controller sound better, screen sharing more immersive, and adjustable power lighting. System update 9.00 entered beta over a month ago and was made available to PS5 owners on Wednesday as public release software.
PS5 system software version 24.02-09.00.00 improves the sound of DualSense and DualSense Edge controllers. The controller speakers are louder, making the sound from the speakers clearer for game sounds and voice chat. The controller’s microphone has also been improved. Sony says new “AI-powered machine learning models” can improve voice chat quality by suppressing background noise from button presses and game audio.
This update also adds an adjustment to the brightness of the PS5 power indicator. You can change its level by going to Settings > System > Sound & Backlight > Brightness. You can choose from three settings: dim, medium, and bright (default).
The share screen allows you to stream gameplay directly from your console and add pointer and emoji reactions. Your live audience can now use a pointer to show you a location on the screen. They can also send emoji reactions from the shared screen, highlighting your in-game triumphs and tragedies. These features are enabled by default, but hosts can turn them off in their screen sharing settings.
Update 9.00 also adds Unicode 15.1 emoji to messages. Less specific changes include performance and stability improvements to the system software, DualSense controller, PlayStation VR2 headset and controller, and Access Controller.
If you are not prompted to update automatically, you can initiate a software download by going to Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update & Settings and selecting Update System Software under Available updates.”
